Could Vitamin D Help You Lose Weight?

A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine states that Vitamin D deficiency is associated with many disorders and diseases. The study also concludes that Vitamin D, in conjunction with other nutrients helps in regulating blood pressure and blood sugar level. During the deficiency of Vitamin D, our body induces the synthesis of a fatty acid enzyme known as synthase. This enzyme has a vital role in the conversion of calories into fat. This finding of correlation of Vitamin D deficiency clearly states that Vitamin D influences the obesity. Moreover, the deficiency of Vitamin D is also responsible for the secretion of insulin hormone, which helps in glucose absorption.

In lack of insulin hormone the person may be susceptible to the diabetic condition. Adequate level of Vitamin D in blood stream will also benefit a person to obtain a healthy body. The Vitamin D plays an important role in secretion of Insulin, which induce the glucose absorption. The adequate availability of Vitamin D will also ensure that our body stay energized. Moreover, it reduces the muscle fatigues by increasing the absorption of glucose. Overall, Vitamin D helps in eliminating most of the weight related problem occurs in obese people.



Moreover, a study conducted by Dr. Shalamar Sibley and co-researchers, on 38 obese men and women, also concluded that with the increase in level of Vitamin D will reduce the weight. According to their study they found out that increase of Vitamin D precursor in the blood by a nanogram per milliliter results in loss of half pound in weight. These researches and studies clearly highlights that the Vitamin D has a significant influence in the accumulation or reduction of abdominal fat. Moreover, the study also concludes that 77 percent of Americans have Vitamin D deficiency, which leads to many other problems including obesity.

 The best way to protect from the deficiency and attaining a healthy body is a limited sun exposure without any sunscreen protection. It is recommended to expose ourselves in early morning and late afternoon for 15 to 20 minutes. Moreover, this recommendation is only for people who has fair complexion. Whereas, people with darker skin complexion must spend at least 40 minutes in sun for the Vitamin D synthesis in our body. Experts suggest that a person must intake at least 4000 IU to 10,000 IU daily to experience the therapeutic effect of reducing weight. If in case sunlight is not an available option then consulting a doctor is recommended.

You can also fulfill the requirement of Vitamin D by eating Vitamin D rich foods. For instance, Fatty fish like sardines, tuna and mackerel are the good source of vitamin D. Other sources of Vitamin D rich foods are fortified organic milk, mushroom and egg yolks. Many times people tend to confuse that food products like egg yolk are rich in cholesterol too, then how it is going to benefit for the weight loss. Usually, the cholesterol is a precursor of Vitamin D. During the exposure to the sunlight, these cholesterols present in the body skin transforms into Vitamin D.
